FAQs

Find answers to common questions about our pet ID tags, engraving, and ordering process. Learn what information to include on your dog or cats tag - your contact details are most important, but you can also add your pets name, medical info, or notes like ‘microchipped’ or ‘insured'. All engraving is centred for clarity, and we offer engraving on both sides of plain tags. For special engraving requests, email info@pet-tags.co.uk

Our pet tags and eZeClips

What materials are used to make our pet tags and eZeClips?
  • Our Aluminium Tags are crafted from anodised aluminium, making them harder and more durable for everyday wear.
  • Our Brass Tags use environmentally friendly solid brass, finished with a clear protective coating to slow oxidation and maintain shine.
  • Our Stainless Steel Tags are made from premium 304 stainless steel, mirror polished for a sleek look and maximum durability-these are our toughest tags.
  • Our Design and Glitter Tags combine zinc alloy, brass, and iron, with the front design coated in epoxy for enhanced durability and a vibrant finish.
  • Our Fashion Tags are made from bronze, primarily composed of copper and tin, offering a stylish and sturdy option.
  • Our Bling Tags are also made from bronze and adorned with genuine Swarovski crystals for a touch of sparkle.
  • Our Smart Tags are constructed from stainless steel, featuring a laser-engraved QR code in metallic black, protected by a durable epoxy coating.
  • Our eZeClips are made from lightweight yet strong aluminium for easy, secure tag attachment.
  • Our split rings are made from stainless steel, designed for exceptional strength-they won’t break unless subjected to significant force, usually if the lead is incorrectly attached to the split ring instead of the collar ring.
Do pet tags come with a ring for collar attachment?

Yes, every pet tag includes a strong stainless steel split ring for secure collar attachment. If you find it difficult to attach, using a blunt knife can help.

Should I use an eZeClip?

While all tags come with a durable steel split ring, eZeClips make attaching and removing tags much easier-perfect for switching between collars or removing tags at home. They also protect your fingernails! However, avoid letting pets wear eZeClips during rough play or in crates, as this may cause injury.

How long will my pet tag last?

The lifespan of your tag depends on usage and care.

  • Stainless steel tags are the most durable, ideal for active dogs and swimmers.
  • Brass tags are softer and require regular cleaning and polishing to last longer.
  • Bling tags are best reserved for special occasions.

If your tag fades or becomes illegible, email us at info@pet-tags.co.uk for a free replacement - see our Returns and Replacements page for details.

Smart Tags

What is a Smart Tag?

Our Smart Tags feature a QR code that can be scanned with most smartphones. Scanning the code or entering it at Smart Tag provides instant access to your pet’s profile and contact details, helping reunite you with your lost pet quickly.

Are Smart Tags GPS trackable?

Smart Tags are not GPS devices. When scanned, they provide the location where the scan occurred and notify you via email and your pet’s profile page. For accurate location, the person scanning must allow location sharing on their device.

Engraving

What details should I engrave on my pets tag?

The Control of Dogs Order (1992) mandates that all dogs in public places must wear ID that includes the owner's surname and address.  The house number and postcode will suffice.  However, if your dog participates in Kennel Club training or awards programs, the full address is required.  A phone number is optional, but sensible. You might also like to add ‘Microchipped’ if there is enough room. Check out our Blog ‘What details should be on a dog ID tag in the UK?’ for more information.

Will my engraving be centred?

Yes, all engraving is centred both vertically and horizontally on the tag.

Can I choose a different font for engraving?

Currently, we cannot offer font selections via our website due to our automated system. For special engraving requests, email us at info@pet-tags.co.uk for options and pricing.

Why did the text layout on my tag change?

We may adjust the layout to best fit the tags shape and your requested text, ensuring optimal readability.

Can I change my order after placing it?

If you need to change your order, email us at info@pet-tags.co.uk before 8am, as engraving starts early every day. Once engraved, changes aren’t possible, but we offer a 25% discount on a new tag (one tag per order).

What if I spot a mistake on my order confirmation?

If you notice an error, email us at info@pet-tags.co.uk before 8am so we can correct it before engraving. If it’s too late, we offer a 25% discount on a replacement tag.

Errors, Lost Tags or Replacements

Why didn't I receive an order confirmation?

Order confirmations are sent immediately to the email provided. Check your junk or spam folder if you don’t see it. If your email was entered incorrectly, contact us at info@pet-tags.co.uk

What should I do if my tag arrives with a mistake?

Our engraving is automated based on your submitted details. Mistakes often occur when
ordering via mobile. If your tag has an error and it’s too late to change, email us at info@pet-tags.co.uk for a 25% discount code on a new tag (one tag per order).

What if I received someone else's tag?

Rarely, human error may result in tags being sent to the wrong address. If this happens, see our Returns and Replacements page for next steps.

Can you replace a lost tag?

We cannot replace lost tags for free. Most losses occur when the lead is attached to the split ring instead of the collar ring. If your split ring is still intact, send us a photo for review. Otherwise, we offer a 25% discount on a new tag. Regularly check your tag, split ring, and eZeClip for wear and tear.

How do I reorder a tag?

Simply reorder through our website for the fastest service.

My pets tag has faded, can I get a replacement?

If your tag fades within 5 years, we’ll replace it for free. Stainless steel tags are best for active or water-loving pets. See our Returns and Replacements page for more info.
