The Yorkshire Countryside, Your Dog and You

Dog walks are so popular in the Yorkshire countryside that there are plenty of resources available on finding the best dog walking spot in Yorkshire for you. However, here are a couple of our favourite recommended dog walks for you and your pooch, perfect for planning your Yorkshire break.

City Walk – 2 miles - York

York is probably not the first place that would come to mind when planning a dog walk in Yorkshire, however, this 2-mile round-trip is based on the legendary Dick Turpin's walk with his dog Nell back in the early 1700s. Along the way, you can revel in the glory of historic York, visit a number of dog-friendly pubs and places to stop for a drink and enjoy the buzzing city sites.

  • The walk begins at Clifford’s Tower, heading up to Piccadilly
  • Head along Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate
  • The first official stop is The Last Drop Inn, Dick Turpin’s old local
  • From The Last Drop Inn, head to Minster for another stop at The Three-Legged Mare
  • From The Three-Legged Mare, it’s back to Clifford’s Tower, where Tower Gardens makes a great place for a warm down

Countryside Walk – 4 miles – Stamford Bridge and the River Derwent

This short 3.5-mile circular walk is perfect for immersing yourself in the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside and includes a serene amble up the quaint River Derwent and through the peaceful village of Stamford Bridge. While the walk itself is fairly flat, some areas can become slippery after heavy rain, so care should be taken and some fields do contain livestock, so a calm dog, careful planning and a lead are required.

Full walk details and a map can be found here.

This summer, delight yourself with the attractions and experiences that God's Own Country has to offer. You never know, you might find your new favourite spot, or at the very least, your dog’s new favourite outdoor spot!

Don’t forget to pick up some holiday-ready pet tags, just in case you and your pet end up separated while you are away on holiday. Up-to-date pet tags are the fastest way for you and your pet to be reunited and they offer peace of mind that you can be contacted readily, should the worst happen.

Final Thought

A well-planned pet holiday on the Yorkshire Coast offers a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation for both you and your companion. Pick the right accommodation, keep them safe during outings, and embrace the local pet-friendly hospitality.
